TELEMEDICINE
CARE @ A DISTANCE
Provide “care at a distance” utilizing
conferencing technologies that seamlessly integrate video, audio and
data for administrative, educational, clinical and research applications.
VideoConferencing... is a way for individuals and groups to see and
to talk to one another as well as share data in "real-time" utilizing
some form of technology.
At BIDMC, we have PictureTel/Polycom
products that can transmit information over a digital network. Currently
the equipment can use either ISDN lines or the LAN (Video-over-IP)
to link doctors, patients, administrators and staffs. As the Internet
becomes more robust, we will share these live, interactive voice, video
and data conversations using the WAN.
TeleMedicine...is videoconferencing
for specific medical applications like Interpreters CareLink that connects
language interpreters with patients who do not speak English or are
hearing impaired.
